En toen was het ineens weer Pinksterweekend, na de vrije dagen met Hemelvaart, Koninginnedag en Pasen. Ik moet zeggen. Deze lange weekenden, ik kan er wel aan wennen. Zeker als het zulk lekker weer is als dit weekend. Gisteren zat ik lekker bij mijn ouders achter in de tuin, maar vandaag moest ik toch echt terug naar Good Ol' Utrecht.

And here we are, Whit Sunday. It's a bank Holiday here, so another 4 day weekend for me. And I've had quite some of those lately thanx to Assumption Day, Queensday and Easter. It's so nice, I can get used to it. Especially with gorgious weather like this. Yesterday I lazed the day away in my parents garden, but today I really had to be here, in Good Ol' Utrecht.

Want vandaag organiseerde De Utrechtse Fabriek weer creatieve markt in het Griftpark. Vorig jaar ontdekt en nog steeds fan: vintage, retro, handgemaakt. En dat zonnetje vandaag erbij. Blij blij blij. Bovendien super om eens de gezichten achter een aantal webshops te zien.

'Cause today De Utrechtse Fabriek organised a great creative market in one of the parks in town. I discoverd it last year and I'm still a big fan: vintage, retro, handmade, supplies. What's not to love! And on a sunny day like this, I could not be happier. It's so much fun to see some faces behind those webshops.

Veel leuke kraampjes weer dit jaar. En zoveel mooie mensen ook. Moet je zien hoe schitterend deze dames eruit zien!

Many lovely shops this year, once again. And so many bee-ootiful people. I mean, just look at how gorgious these two ladies look.

Ik moest bij de hilarische knuffels een beetje denken aan Barbapapa, maar dat ligt vast aan mij. Ik mocht mezelf niet al te hard naar buiten gaan aan knoopjes en speldjes. Ja ja, ik kan me heus wel inhouden als het moet. Wilskracht dames, wilskracht!

These hilarious stuffed toys made me think of Mr. Blobby, but that's probably me. I didn't allow myself to dig out my purse and buys loads of buttons and pins. See, I can hold back. Really I can. Willpower ladies, lots of willpower!

 

Héle mooie kussens met gehaakte details van dit garen! En ik ben ook gek op de kaarten (rechts) en de theedoeken (rechtsonder) met allemaal leuke Londense stadsbussen erop!

Really lovely pollows with crochet details of very heavy yarn. Like. I also love the cards on the right and the tea towels in the corner, right below. They had red London busses on them!

Als je morgen in de buurt van Utrecht bent: ga vooral even langs, tis supergezellig.

En dan willen jullie zeker ook nog even weten wie de Give Away on? Het was wel weer spannend hoor, 217 deelnemers. WOW!! Echt geweldig. Gelukkig zijn er tegenwoordig hulpjes op het wereldwijde web en hoefde ik geen 217 briefjes te schrijven en te knippen.

Polkadot bag Give Away

Omdat ik inmiddels de 700 volgers al gepasseerd ben (amai!), omdat ik onlangs jarig was (pomptiedom), omdat ik onlangs mijn shopje lanceerde (tadaa) en omdat ik het gewoon leuk vind.

So this is my over the chest polka dot bag. Alright, it’s a bit of a useless pocket I front, but isn’t it cute! 

Aan de binnenkant heb ik een hartjesstofje gebruikt. Ook super! Sommige van jullie vragen weleens waar ik mijn stoffen haal. Nou, op de stoffenmarkt in Utrecht. Kom eens langs, zou ik zeggen.

About a big date and a big step

En dan ben je dus ineens jarig. Vandaag. Een leeftijd bereikt waar ik het dus liever niet over heb. De grote drie-nul. Zo, daar heb ik het gezegd. En verder wil ik het er niet over hebben!

So, all of a sudden it was my bday. Today. I reached an age that I’d rather not talk about. The big three-zero. There. I’ve said it. Let’s not mention it again. 

Nu ben ik wel van de dol dwaze acties. Van die acties waarvan mijn moeder zou zeggen: ‘Jij ook altijd met je streken’. Nou mam, ga er maar eens even voor zitten. Want ik heb het gedaan… ik heb het écht gedaan. 

Ik heb mijn eigen Etsy shop geopend.

Now, I am all in for crazy decisions. Decisions that would make my mum shake her head and say: ‘Oh seriously, this is so crazy you. Again.’ Well mum, buckle up and you’d better sit down for this. ‘Cause I did it, I really did. 

I opened my very own Etsy shop today. 

Ik wilde dit al heel lang, kreeg eigenlijk steeds vaker verzoeken om een tas te maken voor die-of-gene. En ik heb er vooral zo veel lol in. Dus waarom niet! En de datum om te starten. Ach, het leek me wel een mooie actie!

I have wanted this for a long time now. And lately, more and more people have put in their request for a custom made bag from me. And seriously, I just love making things for people! And the date to start my shop, wel… I guess I just had to dó something. So better make it a good one, right? 

In mijn shop vind je, hoe kan het ook anders, tassen! Vrolijke kleuren, praktische modellen. Ik heb nog zo veel ideeën in mijn hoofd, dus de shop wordt aangevuld hoor! Binnenkort plaats ik er ook wat haakwerk in. Alles op zijn tijd!

Recipe: DIY tomato sauce

Met een boerenmarkt elke vrijdag en een aantal tuinders in de buurt die aan huis  verkopen, zou ik toch eigenlijk wel gek zijn als ik mijn groente en fruit nog in de supermarkt zou kopen.

With a farmers market every Friday in town and a few farmers that sell from their home, I'd be nuts if I'd still buy my veggies and fruit in the supermarket.

En aangezien ik de laatste tijd zo ontzettend in een doe-het-zelf bui ben, was ik op zoek naar ideeën om wat lekkers zelf te maken. Iets wat je normaal gesproken altijd in de winkel koopt. En toen ik deze prachtige biologische tomaten zag, was de keuze snel gemaakt.

And lately I am in such a DIY mood. I was looking for ideas to make something yummy myself. Something that you'd normally buy in the store. And when I saw these organiscally grown tomatoes, the choice was just so obvious.

Zelfgemaakte pastasaus natuurlijk!!Toegegeven, je hebt er een berg tomaten voor nodig, maar het is het wel waard.

Homemade tomatosauce for pasta of course! I'll admit that you need a ton of tomatoes, but it is worth it. Definately.

Het kost wat tijd, dus wees voorbereid en probeer het niet 'even' te doen, maar het resultaat mag er zijn. Dus als je zin hebt: mijn pastasaus recept!
It takes some time, so be prepared. Don't try to do this if you have just an hour left. But the results are great. So if you feel up for it: here's my pasta sauce recipe. Scroll down for the recipe in English!

Doe-het-zelf tomatensaus

Wat heb je nodig?

3 kilo tomaten
4 sjalotten
4 tenen knoflook
1 struik basilicum
Witte wijnazijn
Suiker
Peper
Zout

Even warmlopen, stretchen, vingerkootjes knakken en gáán!

Keep de tomaten kruislings in. Kook water in een grote pan en dompel de tomaten er ongeveer een minuut in. Je ziet dat de velletjes van de tomaten loskomen. Haal de tomaten er na een minuut uit. Haal de velletjes er vanaf, ontpit ze en verwijder het kroontje.

Voor 3 kilo tomaten duurt dit best lang, dat je het weet!

Knip alle basilicum van de struik en hak fijn. Als je dit in de keukenmachine kunt doen: lekker handig! Snipper de sjalotjes en hak de knoflook fijn.

Giet een klein scheutje olijfolie in de pan en fruit hierin de sjalotjes en de knoflook, een minuutje of 3-4. Doe daarna alle ontvelde tomaten in de pan, voeg een eetlepel witte wijnazijn toe, twee theelepeltjes suiker, alle basilicum (of zoveel als je lekker vindt) en zout en peper naar smaak.

Breng het geheel aan de kook, roer goed door en laat het geheel 25 minuten zacht doorkoken. Af en toe roeren.

Kook nu 4-5 glazen potten en hun deksels uit (ongeveer 10 minuten in kokend water) en laat ze vervolgens uitlekken op een droge theedoek.

Na 25 minuten, haal je de tomatensaus van het vuur en pureer je het geheel met de staafmixer. Proef of je de smaak oké vindt. Voeg eventueel nog azijn, peper, zout of basilicum toe.

Giet nu de saus in de potjes. Draai de dekseltjes er goed op en laat ze ondersteboven afkoelen.

Klaar ben je!! Lekker toch!

DIY Tomato sauce
What do you need?

3 kg of fresh tomatoes
1 bush of basil
4 shallots
4 cloves of garlic
White wine viengar
Sugar
Salt
Pepper

Alright: let's stretch first and do a proper warming-up and you're all set to start!

Cut a little cross in all the tomatoes. Put a large pan filled with water on te fire and bring it to the boil. Put the tomatoes in there and keep 'em there for about a minute. You will see all the skins coming off. Take the tomatoes out of the pan. Peel them, remove the hearts.
Now, this takes a long time for 3 kilos of tomatoes. Just so you know.

Take all the basil and chop it up really finely. Peel the shallots and garlic and chop them up too. 

Put a little bit of olive oil in a pan, put in the shallots and the garlic and strirfry untill soft (3-4 mins), then put all the peeled tomatoes in the pan and add a table spoon of vinegar, 2 tea spoons of sugar, all the basil and some salt and pepper to taste. 

Bring it all to the boil, stir through and let it simmer for about 25 minutes and stir it every once in a while.

Now boil 4-5 glass jars and their lids in a pan filled with water for about 10 minutes.

After 25 minutes, take the sauce off the fire and blend the mixture untill smooth. Then taste the sauce and add vinegar, salt, pepper and basil to taste. 

Put the sauce in the jars, screw on the lids and let the jars cool off standing upside down.

And that's that, you're done. Now isn't that YUM!

There it is! My first skirt

Het heeft me behoorlijk wat bloed en zweet (nee, geen tranen) gekost. Maar hier is hij dan eindelijk. Mijn allereerste zelf genaaide rokje. Deze heeft wel zijn eigen Tadaaaa Moment verdiend, dacht ik zo.

It took a lot of blood and sweat (no tears luckily), but here it is. Finally. My very first home sewn skirt. It really deserves its own Tadaaa Moment, doesn't it.

En ja, het is toch ook wel een *slik* momentje hoor. Zo met je benen op je eigen blog. Dat had ik toch ook niet kunnen denken toen ik deze blog startte. Maar ja, wie zelf naait moet ook model staan. Speciale dank aan mijn Lief die zich in zeer vreemde poses wrong om het rokje zo voordelig mogelijk uit te laten komen ('wat hebben we onze meubels eigenlijk in de weg staan').

En even speciale aandacht voor mijn laarzen, ik kocht ze afgelopen maandag. Mijn eerste echte, eigen cowboy laarzen. Misschien niet heel bijzonder, hoor ik je denken. Maar met mijn nauwelijks-bestaande kuiten is het vrijwel onmogelijk om gewone laarzen te vinden die niet 5 à 10 centimeter te breed zijn. Laat staan cowboy laarzen! Ik heb echt een dansje gedaan in de winkel waar ik ze vond. Tot groot genoegen van de verkoopsters.

Oh yes, a tough moment too. Showing your legs on your blog. Oh dear. I could never have thought I'd do such a thing when I started with this blog. But hey, those who sew shall pose! Right? And also special thanx to my Luv who had to sit and lay in very odd positions in order to make the skirt look its best. ('We really have placed our furnature in the way of everything, haven't we?')

And can I get some attention for my western boots please! My first pair of western boots, yeehaw! Maybe you think that isn't special, but with my hardly existing calves it sure is! It's quite hard finding normal boots that aren't at least 5 to 10 centimeters too wide, let alone find cowboy boots that fit! I really did a little dance in the shop when I found these, to the amusement of the girls who work there.

En we gaan het niet hebben over dat ik dacht tijdens Van Katoen 'oh, dat naai ik wel even in elkaar' om vervolgens tot de conclusie te komen dat ik (weer) de verkeerde naad had dichtgenaaid en het tornmes ter hand moest nemen. En we gaan het ook niet hebben over mijn bittere teleurstelling dat ik de rok tijdens de workshop niet heb afgekregen. En we gaan het al helemaal niet hebben over blinde ritsen, daar ik geen blinde ritsvoet heb en ik dus besloot een gewone rits in de rok te zetten. Alhoewel dat laatste me behoorlijk goed gelukt is (schouderklopje), dankzij haar buitengewone uitleg!

And let's just not talk about how I thought during the workshop in which I tried to make this skirt 'seriously, how hard can it be', only to discovered that I had sewn the wrong seam (again) and that I had to tear it open (again) and start allover. And we're not going to talk about how bitterly dissapointed I was when I didn't manage to finish the skirt during the workshop. And we're also not going to talk about the blind zipper I should've put in there, but since I have no blind zipper stitch foot I put in a normal zipper. Which, by the by, went totally fine because I followed the fine instructions in this book.

(Vooruit, voor de teer gevoeligen ook nog één zonder mijn benen erop)

Nee, voor mij blaakt dit rokje van perfectie (trouwens, de zoom is écht perfect gelukt, zo trots) en ik vind het schelpenstofje echt helemaal te gek! Laat de zomer (pomptiedom) nu maar komen.

No, for me this skirt is nothing but perfect (And really, the bottom seam turned out fantastic, if I may say so myself) and I really like the shell-fabric. I cannot wait for summer to start.
